Exit Planning & CEPA
Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Exit Planning Institute's CEPA training. CEPA stands for Certified Exit Planning Advisor. Most of the folks attending the class were CFPs, with a few attorneys and CPAs as well. Not only was the training efficient and well run, the program did a great job of connecting the dots for me. It provides a path for owners to exit their businesses in the best possible circumstances. It laid out the team needed for a good exit.
The information shared certainly wasn't new to me; what was new was the way it was laid out and the high quality of communication. I know I have a tendency toward over-explaining and getting highly technical. The CEPA program is designed to improve communication to drive better results.
I will likely dive into the details of CEPA and the importance of good process and planning in future posts. For now, I just want to emphasize the value I received from the program. I plan to implement the process in my current practice. I'm looking forward to expanding my network of exit planning professionals and using this experience as a fundamental building block for my own continued learning.
To the folks at EPI, thank you for doing a great job presenting the material and opening my eyes to the incredible opportunity good planning provides to our clients.
